Welcome !

It's the new year and the perfect time for all of us to set our intention on firing up our harmonica playing!

It's time to set new goals, revisit the reasons we started playing harmonica in the first place, and blast open the path to harmonica heaven. 😇

Especially for those of you who may have hit a little roadblock in the past, now is the perfect time to reconnect with your harmonica and ask me your questions. Whatever your stumbling block, I know there are solutions! ✔️

To help, I've made a video, and I've outlined a few tips below to get you started!

1: Reconnect with your blues harp

To fire up your playing, first reconnect with your instrument, and give it a little love. If we hit it cold, just like anything, it's not going to respond they way we want. 😉

Dust it off, give it a clean, and if it needs a deep clean i have a video here.

Next warm it up a little before you play. Hold it in your hand for a minute or so, then start with an easy chug like a slow version of The Train (like I teach in #Step 1).

Then have a play.... anything that comes to mind!

Do this every day for a few days, it should feel almost like a coffee break or meditation time. You'll be enjoying yourself and starting to get an idea of what you want to improve on.

2: Do the fun stuff

We need to remember to do the fun stuff while we practice and improve our technique. The nature of the harmonica means there is a lot of music we can play, even after just step one and step two. So don't get caught up on perfection, before fun!

For example:

  • Play along with some records, have a couple of drinks, don't judge, and let go.
  • Try to play some easy tunes by ear, and embrace the mistakes... have fun with it and don't be hard on your self.

These are just a couple of examples, there's also my play-a-longs and the harmonica lick library here at harmonicatime.com. They are great ways to enjoy and improve all aspect of your playing too.

Simply put, do the practice, but remember to have fun along the way and enjoy the journey! ⛵

3: Ask me how

Shot me an email, or better still post in the forums to ask me some specific questions about where you are up to and what you are finding difficult. The web is a great resource for answers, but beware, It's a jungle out there!

For every piece of good advice, and correct tabs there are an equal amount of incorrect ones and some bad advice. While following my course, you won't go wrong exploring all materials out there. Just remember to stick to my course as your base, and ask questions of me when you're unsure!

Not asking for help is the main reason people give up on the blues harp!! 🔔

Here at harmonicatime.com you can share audio files, and join in on my *members only webinars. There's a lot of great ways to connect and get the info across to me that i need to answer even the most tricky questions.

As I write the next members webinar is scheduled for Sunday Jan 16th. There are two every month, and they are free to all members. Members are invited to register via email and come along. I answer all questions and everybody learns directly from me, in real time. 🎧 🚀
