Is a tremolo harmonica fine for just playing melodies? What are the pros and cons of a tremolo?

Yes, it’s fine for playing melodies. That’s its primary function. Each note has two reeds that are tuned to slightly different pitches, in order to produce a “tremolo” sound.

There are no bends on a tremolo harmonica though, so it’s purely played in 1st position.
