Hi Mitch, I’m working through your step-by-step beginner lessons using the Hohner Jam 30-day free lessons offer that came with my Special 20 C Major harmonica. I’m stumbling on the tab transitions in Coming round the mountain in Step 3. I can’t seem to get the transition from draw 6, blow 6, blow 5,6,7 in the first stanza to sound like the jam track. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong so I’ve attached a recording that covers the first 5 seconds of the track in hope you can pick out the flaw in my technique.

    Hi Don,

Great to hear from you. I really appreciate you asking this question, and the audio is very helpful.

Are you intentionally playing multiple notes at once?

That’s the issue. The tune calls for single notes throughout, and in that spot they ascend through 4 then 5 then 6.

Hi Mitch, thanks for getting back to me on this. I’m actually trying to play single notes on that stanza and have been working on pursing my lower lip to isolate the individual holes. It seems like I haven’t gotten that effect but if I really purse my lower lip then I tense my upper lip and it turns into a pucker. I didn’t think that was the required technique so I reached out for help.
