    Hi everybody,

Happy new year all of you – may the harp be with you :-)

I am doing my best to get into playing with microphone and amp. I use Spark 2 from Positive Grid as smart amp. The Spark 2 is a so called amp simulator and gives me the opportuinty to simulate a wide range of amps and effect pedals. The main user group for this beast are guitar players and not us harpers.

I am running in problem that would be there with analog stuff as well: When playing the harp and recording everything sounds rich (even fat) – but when I play the recorded back it doesn’t sound half as good.

I think that the problem is hearing the sound of the harmonica while I play it and at the same time the modified sound coming back from the amp. Both sounds mix up in my ears and so comes the rich/fat sound.

As I am recording through the amp over usb into my PC I am only getting half of that sound – the amplified one.

How can I come up with settings on my amp, effect pedals that sound good on my recordings as well? Do you have any idea or experience in this area?

    BR

Sometimes it helps to write things down to get an idea how to attack them differently.

While the (electric) guitarist can practice through the headphones and records nearly the same sound this doesn’t work for us harmonica players.
Using headphones leads to the problem described above.

Playing through the speaker loud enough solves the problem. You hear the amplified/modified sound only and will record what you hear.

    BR
