Hey Guys n Gals,
You’ve most likely just seen that I’ve recently uploaded a blog post called “Improvising With Rhythm“, which expands on the concepts I teach in Step 13 of my Step-by-Step course.
My question is…
Who’s up for having a go at recording their own version either on video or audio and posting it here?
I’d love to hear em, and I know everyone else would too! 🎶
Thanks Mitch…This was some good inspiration!
Here’s my jam from this morning

Who’s up next?
You can upload to Youtube, SoundCloud or a file-hosting platform like Shawn did!
🎵 😊
Nice going Shawn, sounds really good..I’ll give it a go over the next few days
Thanks Jonathan… I’ll be looking forward to it!
Sounds awesome, Shawn and Mitch! I’ll post one here soon too. Happy New Year!
Hey Ryan! Thanks so much buddy… And happy new year to you too man
Got some time to myself so I was able to record today.
Some practice & experiments from today on a G harp:And this one for shiggles:
Cheers
First of all… “shiggles”… The laughter started when I saw the word”shiggles”😂. I pressed play and saw you spinning…looked at the length of the video, I then began chuckling and thought “he’s gonna spin for the entire video isn’t he?!… spoiler… I was right. Clown in parade…You nailed it😂😂😂
And now with all the serious business out of the way… I loved hearing your experimenting. Man you got some cool tones coming out of there. Especially in your diddlin. And then your sonny Terri like jam sounds awesome Ryan!
I think it’s one of my favorite aspects of being a part of this forum is getting to hear other people increasingly getting better on the harmonica. It inspires Me more than anything.
I mean I listened to these recordings and man you can tell you’ve been practicing… nice playing Ryan!maaan I don’t record nearly enough and once I get the chance to it usually turns out like the clown spinning video lol. I’m glad you enjoy my humor Shawn. The rest of the world raises at least one eyebrow lol. I was gonna cut the video short, but I felt if anyone felt the need to watch to the end, they deserved to see the comedy in me struggling to hit that overblow haha. Appreciate your compliments too brotha. Took me long enough to even want to record myself or like what I sounded like. And I’m completely there w/ you – it’s really cool to hear others improvement on this instrument we love, especially when there’s so many different avenues to touch on. Your recordings and others through this forum gave me the inspiration to do so. You make me happy that the inspiration now goes both ways. It just hadn’t clicked that I should participate sooner than later, regardless of what I care about what I sound like, to get the feedback I need and to start a groove train up in here! Excited to hear who’s next!
It’s great to hear others playing and having so much fun at the same time. Great also to see you playing around trying different things and to hear your thoughts on recording yourself and uploading it Rooftop Cat. I’m still messing around trying to make something half decent to upload but I really need to just go for it and not worry too much about my mistakes. Thanks for uploading, awesome bra…
That’s what I’m talkin about, Jonathan. Thank you, bro.
here’s my effort. I’m not the most confident but reading the posts, watching and listening to the clips I thought what the hell. I had plenty of attempts with varying success(and failure ha ha) but in the end just did it.
Awesome guys, good to see you’re having fun with it!
From rooftop going for his overblown overblow 😉 to Jonathan’s catchy rhythm (with a great ending by the way Jonathan) It shows that it’s not about sounding perfect first go. It’s about having a go!
And sharing your versions here really does help inspire others to do the same while pushing yourself just that little bit too, right into finding some cool stuff!
Alright… who’s up next? 🎶
