I’m a new member and new to harmonica! Hope I can get to a good level by playing on here. Any wise words from those who are more advanced?
Hi Serena! What a cool instrument right?!! I remember watching a documentary about the harmonica and one of the musicians was saying (and I paraphrase) that usually a musician has to be really good on their instrument to light up a crowd. But he said that in his experience he has seen that a crowd will light up even just hearing a harmonica… and he emphasized that the musician didn’t even have to be that good, it’s just something special about the instrument that people love!
I loved how he pointed that out because I find it so true! And my advice would be to simply not let dust settle on it… metaphorically speaking… although now that I am typing this I wouldn’t want to play a dusty harmonica 😂 and you really never know when you’re going to need one… you’d be surprised how often they come in handy!
I like to keep one in my pocket in case I come across someone playing music. Having an unexpected jam with a stranger is such a cool experience. And having one around just in case you feel like jamming on a hike is so nice. A friend on here shared a story of how he plays his harmonica on a bridge before work. I love that image! Those are some lucky commuters! That would totally make my day if I came across that! And to be honest some of my best improv sessions come from blowing off steam in my parked car. I find the latter is super helpful! Then also I would say to just keep searching out good inspiration to keep that creative fire lit!🔥
Have an awesome journey with your harp! 🙏
ShawnAnd it doesn’t hurt that you’re in Nashville! Geez having a harmonica in Nashville I imagine is like having a surfboard at the ocean! That just makes sense!
Hey Serena, welcome. Ive found the steps and tuition to be spot on for me. At first I made the mistake of moving through them too quickly thinking I was able to progress. I revisited them taking my time and it definitely worked for me. I’m sure you’ll get a lot from them and soon you’ll be deep in the world of harmonica.
