I discovered a way to play the harmonica with continuous airflow. Just breathing in and out from the diaphragm. Im my opinion it adds a special sound to the melody. What do you think?
Bb-major is the tuning of the instrument.
Thanks for your response
Udo
Nice Udo… Ya I totally hear it. There’s like a fullness to the sound. That really makes a difference, I can look at my own playing and see that without the diaphragm engaged it’sa much more shallow sound. Did you discover this on your own and is there a technique you are using other than just engaging your diaphragm? Thanks for this🙏
Hi Shawn,
Thanks for your positive feedback. I discovered this while playing on my own. It’s more to it than engaging the diaphragm.
The diaphragm lays the ground for this constant deep breathing in and out. Rhythm and loudness are built on top of this. It feels more like a flow.
I’ll try to find a better description.
All the best,
Udo
Hi Shawn,
Another day another way to explain 😊
Using my diaphragm before ment to tighten my belly and have a good stand, resulting in a good tone.
Now the diaphragm gets a much more active part in my play. It on the one hand serves as the “pump” to let the air stream in and out. On the other hand it “jumps” in certain moments to give the sound a bouncing feel.
Story continues…
Keep on harping
